It is my pleasure to write a few words about my journey with the Journal of Neonatal Surgery (JNS). There are several journals to choose from, but when it comes to a super-specialty journal the options are limited. Only a handful of journals are available on pediatric surgery; JNS is the only journal fully dedicated to Neonatal Surgery. The main aim of JNS is to reduce morbidity and mortality of neonatal surgery by publishing the latest trends in this discipline, in a particular context to developing countries.

JNS has always been close to my heart. I was introduced to JNS by Prof. Dr. Y.K. Sarin in 2015 in the second year of my MCh Pediatric Surgery at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. I had my first publication published in the JNS titled ‘’Congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a case of Patau syndrome: a rare association’’ in 2015. [1] Since then of the >80 publications to my credit, 18 are published in the JNS.

In July 2020, JNS started a training opportunity as Assistant Editor of the JNS. It is a certificate training course of 6 months duration, in which interested Pediatric/Neonatal surgeons/trainees/senior residents may apply and gets opportunities for editorial review, handling the peer-review process, copy editing the manuscripts, an overview of the Open Journal System publishing platform, publishing manuscripts, etc. I was among the first to apply for it and got the opportunity to learn a lot especially from Dr. Muhammad Bilal Mirza. After completion of my assistant editor training, I was assigned Associate editorship of JNS and currently working as an Editor for the journal. The details of the training program, eligibility, criteria, and Alumni are available on the JNS website. [2]

JNS is now indexed on Scopus for its content coverage since January 2021. The JNS achieved a milestone of over 2600 citations this year [3] and started a collaboration with the Pediatric Surgery Online Society (PSON) in March 2022. [4] I hope that the JNS keeps striving ahead to fulfill its aim and objectives; I also look forward to its indexing with more credulous indexing bodies. On the behalf of the whole editorial team of JNS, I wish our beloved authors, readers, reviewers, and the whole pediatric surgery fraternity a happy and prosperous new year ahead.
